Modernized Authentication

Betterlytics now runs on a new, actively maintained system for accounts and signing in, with ongoing security updates. Everything works as before, though two-factor authentication needs to be set up again.

Modernized Authentication

We have moved the system that handles your account, your sessions, and signing in onto a modern, actively developed foundation that receives ongoing security updates. Email and password sign-in, Google and GitHub sign-in, and two-factor authentication all continue to work, and your password, dashboards, team members, and data are unchanged.

  • Two-factor authentication needs to be set up again. Existing setups could not be carried over to the new system, and everyone affected has been emailed.
  • To re-enable it, open Settings from your avatar menu and go to Account security. Your authenticator app will get a new QR code, and you can delete the old Betterlytics entry.
  • You may have been signed out once as the change rolled out. That was the switch itself, not a problem with your account.

Security

  • Enabling two-factor authentication now confirms your account password before showing the QR code.
  • Disabling two-factor authentication now asks for your account password instead of a code from your authenticator app.

Improvements

  • Signed-in pages now do less work verifying your session, making the dashboard feel slightly quicker to move around.

The Betterlytics WordPress Plugin

Our official WordPress plugin is now available: connect your site from wp-admin, without touching a single line of code. This release also brings a usage breakdown to billing settings and the first wave of a much stronger bot filter.

WordPress Plugin

Betterlytics now has an official WordPress plugin, available in the WordPress.org plugin directory. Install it from wp-admin, paste in your Site ID, enable tracking, and your analytics start filling in. There is no snippet to add to your theme, and nothing to re-apply after a theme update.

  • Page views, visitors, sessions, referrers, campaigns, devices, and geography, from the moment you turn tracking on.
  • Outbound link clicks, Core Web Vitals, and click tracking on any button or link, each behind a single toggle.
  • A setup guide right inside wp-admin that walks you through connecting your site.
  • Every setting is also manageable from WP-CLI, for sites deployed from a pipeline.

A few capabilities are configured on the tracking script itself and are not exposed by the plugin yet, including session replay, error tracking, dynamic URL grouping, and global properties. For now, those still require installing the tracking script manually. Our documentation has a dedicated WordPress section covering setup, every setting, and what the plugin does and does not track.

Stronger Bot Filtering

Automated traffic is one of the biggest sources of misleading analytics, so we have rebuilt how Betterlytics recognizes it. The first wave of new detection rules is now live and filters out more bots, crawlers, and referrer spam before they ever reach your reports.

Alongside it, a much larger set of rules runs in observation mode: they flag suspected bot traffic without affecting your numbers, so we can measure each rule against real traffic before it starts filtering. Expect further waves as rules prove themselves, each one making your data a little cleaner.

New Features

  • Billing settings now include a usage breakdown, showing exactly which event types make up your monthly quota, and how much each of your sites contributes.
  • The breakdown also makes clear which events are free: time on page and scroll depth are tracked as separate events but never count toward your quota.

Improvements

  • Our event pipeline is now more resilient during deployments and infrastructure disruptions, so your data keeps arriving reliably.
  • Various small design and usability improvements across the dashboard.

Fixes

  • Following an old dashboard link no longer ends in a redirect loop. It now takes you to your list of dashboards.

Security

  • Hardened event ingestion against malformed and malicious data, alongside general security updates to keep Betterlytics stable and secure.

Custom Event Property Filters & a Richer Events Page

Filter your analytics by any custom event property, explore your full event catalog with search and sorting, and connect your uptime monitors and status pages to your AI assistants.

New Features

  • You can now filter and segment any report by the properties you send with your custom events.
  • The Events page now shows your complete event list with search and sorting.
  • New browser version and OS version filters.
  • Uptime monitoring, status pages, and Global Properties are now available through the MCP server.
  • MCP tokens can now be given an expiry when you create them.

Improvements

  • Filters that don't apply to a page are now shown as unavailable, instead of silently returning no data.
  • The wildcard "*" can now be used on its own to filter by whether a field has any value at all.
  • Referrer domains in the Traffic Sources section on the overview page are now clickable to filter.
  • Various small design and usability improvements across filters, the events page, and the event log.

Fixes

  • Filter values now match case-insensitively everywhere, so lowercase values no longer show empty geography and device cards.
  • "is not" filters no longer silently do nothing on pages that report on sessions.
  • Clicking a city or region now filters by the full location hierarchy, so cities with the same name are no longer merged.
  • Fixed an issue where uptime monitor check intervals above 1 hour would not save.
  • An invalid filter in a shared URL no longer clears your entire filter set.

Security

  • General security updates to keep Betterlytics stable and secure.
